An Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor Has Many Years of Training
An Otolaryngologist is commonly referred to as an ear, nose and throat doctor or an ENT. An ENT specialist is a highly trained member of the medical community. In order for a person to qualify to become an ENT, they need at least 13 years of medical training. A person who desires to become an ENT will have to complete four years of undergraduate school, four years of medical school and approximately five years of specialty training. To become and ear, nose and throat doctor, one must also pass the American Board of Otolaryngology exam. This is the only way to receive the certification. In addition to otolaryngology, an ENT often works with other doctors as well. For example, a doctor who practices dermatology or plastic surgery may work in conjunction with an ENT. There are a number of other medical specialties that often associate with an Otolaryngologist.
